Pfeifer Racings first trek to Florida wraps up with Mother Nature again winning on the final night of racing. On the nights that the cars were able to hit the track, Steven had some good runs. Of the 9 nights he was on the track he made the A Main 6 times. One night 5th, one 8th and no further back than 16th the other nights. The competition in Florida is some of the best drivers in the country including names like: Kenny Schrader, Kenny Wallace, Clint Bowyer, Jason Hughes and Jared Landers.

After taking in some Nascar action this week it is back to the frozen tundra and plan out the rest of the season.

Mother Nature has won a couple of nights so far during Pfeifer Racing's stay at Volusia Speedway Park. On the nights they have gotten to race Steven has made the A Main 2 of the 3 nights with 14th and 5th place finishes. The 5th place finish moved him directly to the Gator Championship race on Monday.

Pfeifer Racing's night 2 went about the same as night 1, not good. Ended up finished towards the back of the heat and middle of the B Main.

Night 3, however, started of great with Steven winning his heat and transfering directly to the A Main. While the feature could have gone better the #11 Portal Service Racing - Harris Chassis car crossed the line in 8th. Upon looking the car over after the race it became apparent as to why Steven dropped back to the 8th position from the 3rd place spot he was handily holding on to most of the race, a severely bent left rear shock.

Night 4 didn't go as well as night 3 as Steven placed 3rd in his heat, one position short of going to the A Main. The 3rd place heat finish sent him to a B Main where he finished 2nd. A Main action was pretty brutal with a bunch of cars dropping out. Steven managed to make it all 25 laps for a 16th place finish.

Night 5, actually DAY 6, as the January 30th race was rained out and moved to a noon start on January 31st. In general, day races are hard for the track crew to get the track prepped evenly due to the sun. This day race was no different. The track was tacky almost everywhere except a few spots in the corners. Steven managed to find one of those spots on the opening lap and spun the tires and went around. He was able to come back for a 2nd place heat finish. Though 2nd would have been good enough all other nights he needed to win the heat this night to advance directly to the A Main. B Main went fairly smooth and he finished 3rd to once again make it into the A Main. This A Main was 75 laps and $5000 to win!!!!  Steven started the A Main in the 21th position. 38 laps in the caution flew and the race was stopped for the cars to top off fuel. At this time Steven was up to 10th place. After a few more cautions through out the last 37 laps Steven went forward and back a few positions to end the night and his week at the Eastbay Winternationals crossing the line for the checkered flag in the 11th position.

Overall, for the first time racing in Florida, the week went well and Steven showed that he can race with some of the biggest racers in the country.

Next stop - VOLUSIA SPEEDWAY - Deleon Springs, FL

Steven qualified 9th out of 50 and started inside row two of heat 7. While battling wheel to wheel contact was made and Steven went to the tail. Though he was able to make his way back towards the front they only took the top 2 of the heats and he had to go to a B Main.  In his B he started in 14th possition and steadily made his way up to midpack. He was soon up to the qualifing 4th position just in time for a yellow to come out. Upon the restart he was squeezed into the wall and dropped back a few positions. Come checkered flag time he had regained those lost positions and crossed the line side by side with the 4th place car just feet away from being in the qualifying position. Tomorrow night Steven once again takes to the track at the CLAY BY THE BAY in Tampa.

Portal Service Racing - Steven and Tyson Turnbull - arrived in Florida today to get ready for 5 days worth of racing at Eastbay Raceway Park before heading to Volusia Speedway for another 8 nights of modified action.

Pfeifer first in this month’s Woody’s Hot Shot judging

BOWBELLS, N.D. – A season that saw its share of ups and downs comes to an end on the upside for Steven Pfeifer.
The Bowbells, N.D., driver is the winner of the Woody’s Hot Shot of the Month contest for October. He’ll receive a dozen window decals and 10 custom T-shirts.
Pfeifer’s ninth year in the class saw him in victory lane following five sanctioned events, and prematurely in the pits with half a dozen DNFs.
“This was one of those years that could have been great and came out just being good,” he said. “We had a lot of mechanical problems. Ignition system failures just killed us.”
The most haunting of those DNFs came on the second night of Dacotah Speedway’s two-day show in early August. Pfeifer had won the opener and had the inside track to the overall title before being forced pitside.
On the flip side, he’d won the Big Dog Dakota Classic Tour event at Southwest Speedway just two weeks earlier. That victory was his first on the series circuit in six years.
“Things worked out for us late in the race,” Pfeifer said. “Once we got the lead back I was able to hold off Mike Hansen.”
Two seasons in a street stock preceded Pfeifer’s move to the Modified class. He did a little traveling in 2009, rolling for the first time in his career at Hancock County Speedway in Britt, Iowa.
This was also his first year in a Harris ride. Pfeifer will return to Iowa to pick up a new car in November, a couple weeks after tying the knot with fiancée Karen Abrahamson.
Pfeifer’s crew includes his father Jerry, Chad Johnson, Nick Lund, Mark Weiskopf and Correy Pierce.
His sponsors are Portal Service of Lignite; Dresser Oil Tools & Supply of Tioga; AmeriPride and CP Design, both of Bismarck; and Border Town Bar & Grill and Neal’s Industrial Painting, both of West Fargo.

The Stock Car Stampede host approximately 300 cars in 6 classes and Steven made the 170 mile trip to be 2 of the 300 cars. This is the first/last time of the year racing the Modified under the Wissota rules and the last race of the year for the Latemodel.

Heats are run on Friday and B's and Mains on Saturday.

Next weekend will be the last races for 2009 at the Stampede in Jamestown.  We are bringing both the modified and latemodel. 

Sept. 12 & 13th - went to the fall special in Williston and took 3rd Saturday night and 1st on Sunday night in the mod.
